LARGE1 antisense RNA 1 (LARGE1-AS1)

LARGE1 antisense RNA 1 (LARGE1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene annotated in the human genome, transcribed antisense to the LARGE1 locus, which encodes glycosyltransferase LARGE1. While other antisense lncRNAs can play regulatory roles in gene expression and chromatin dynamics, no direct functional or disease associations have been described for LARGE1-AS1 specifically. Its naming convention follows the standard for lncRNAs positioned antisense to coding genes. Published literature mentions the existence of both "LARGE-AS1" and "LARGE1-AS1", which can potentially lead to confusion, but both refer to antisense lncRNAs in the LARGE1 gene region[5]. Functional annotation and clinical significance are currently unknown. If additional functional or disease associations are desired for lncRNAs of this class, general mechanisms seen with other antisense lncRNAs include chromatin regulation, regulation of sense gene expression, and possible roles in transcriptional or post-transcriptional regulation[4][7], but such roles are not confirmed for LARGE1-AS1 and should not be ascribed absent direct evidence.
