The LARP4 pseudogene (LARP4P) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA sequence that resembles the protein-coding LARP4 gene but does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes like LARP4P typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and generally lack protein-coding capability or regulatory function. Unlike true molecular targets such as receptors, enzymes, or transporters, pseudogenes are not considered direct therapeutic targets, nor do they have defined molecular or biological functions in the classical sense. There is currently no evidence that LARP4P serves as a therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or participates in drug interaction or gene regulation networks. The functional LARP4 gene, in contrast, encodes an RNA-binding protein involved in mRNA regulation and mitochondrial function[1][2], but LARP4P does not contribute to these processes. Based on standard conventions and available gene database content, LARP4P is not a true drug or biology target, and its inclusion in therapeutic target lists is incorrect[3].
