LARS2 antisense RNA 1 (LARS2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the genomic region antisense to the LARS2 gene, located on chromosome 3. As an antisense lncRNA, its principal function is presumed to involve regulation of the overlapping LARS2 gene, either by affecting transcription, mRNA stability, or chromatin state in cis or trans. Antisense lncRNAs are known to play diverse regulatory roles, but there are no current studies specifically characterizing the biological activity, disease association, or drug interactions of LARS2-AS1. While the LARS2 protein product itself is associated with mitochondrial function and certain syndromes, LARS2-AS1 is primarily classified as a regulatory RNA, and there is no evidence confirming it as a therapeutic target or its involvement in pharmacological modulation.
