Late cornified envelope protein 1A is a structural protein encoded by the LCE1A gene, located in the late cornified envelope (LCE) gene cluster within the epidermal differentiation complex on chromosome 1[2][7]. The protein serves as a precursor for the cornified envelope of the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin, and is expressed relatively late during skin development[5][6]. LCE1A is regulated by the tumor suppressor p53 and appears to play a role in modulating histone methylation by interacting with protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5)[1].
