Late cornified envelope protein 2C (LCE2C) is a structural protein encoded in the epidermal differentiation complex, specifically within the late cornified envelope (LCE) family, which contributes to the integrity and formation of the cornified envelope in the uppermost layers of the epidermis[2][3][5]. LCE2C and related proteins are expressed differentially in the epidermis, particularly in the stratum granulosum and stratum corneum, and are essential for skin barrier function[1]. While deletion of related LCE family members (such as LCE3B and LCE3C) is a known risk factor for psoriasis, the direct therapeutic targeting of LCE2C has not been reported, and its role is primarily structural rather than as a drug target[1][3].
