Late cornified envelope pseudogene 3 (LCEP3) is a non-coding pseudogene found in the human genome as part of the late cornified envelope gene cluster within the epidermal differentiation complex (EDC) on chromosome 1. Unlike its functional protein-coding counterparts (such as LCE3D), LCEP3 does not produce a functional protein and does not have known biological, pathological, or therapeutic roles. Its annotation as a pseudogene means it represents a remnant or paralog of late cornified envelope genes that has lost protein-coding capacity, and it is not implicated in drug targeting or disease mechanisms. Pseudogenes are typically not transcribed into functional proteins and thus are not considered receptors, enzymes, or druggable therapeutic targets. No known drugs, disease associations, or biomarker roles are documented for LCEP3.
