Target intelligence / Profile preview
LCMT1 antisense RNA 1 (LCMT1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed antisense to the LCMT1 gene. It is primarily studied in cancer biology, where it has been implicated in promoting proliferation and migration of cancer cells—especially in colorectal adenocarcinoma. Knockdown of LCMT1-AS1 inhibits proliferation and migratory capacity in colon cancer cell lines, likely through inhibition of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), as evidenced by increased E-cadherin and decreased vimentin expression following knockdown. The exact regulatory mechanisms may involve transcriptional interference or chromatin remodeling affecting LCMT1 or other genes. Thus far, LCMT1-AS1 is not a direct target for any known drugs, but may serve as a biomarker for prognosis in some cancers. LCMT1-AS1 knockdown inhibits cancer cell EMT and migration; overexpression is associated with cancer progression. Its putative role in gene regulation may be by modulating LCMT1 or other cancer-related targets, but this remains to be specifically characterized. No evidence exists for receptor/enzyme/drug interaction roles, nor for direct involvement in classic pharmacological mechanisms.
