The left ventricle is the muscular, conical-shaped lower left chamber of the heart. It receives oxygenated blood from the left atrium through the mitral valve and pumps it to the systemic circulation via the aortic valve, requiring greater wall thickness than the right ventricle to effectively overcome high systemic arterial pressures. Pathologies involving the left ventricle, such as hypertrophy (often secondary to hypertension or aortic valvulopathy) and noncompaction cardiomyopathy, are central to many cardiovascular disorders, but the left ventricle itself is never considered a molecular drug target as it is an anatomical structure composed mainly of cardiomyocytes and supporting tissues[1][2][3][4].
