A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is an implantable mechanical pump used as a circulatory support for patients with advanced heart failure whose left ventricle cannot adequately pump blood. The LVAD pulls blood from the left ventricle and pumps it into the aorta, ensuring sufficient systemic perfusion. LVADs can serve as a bridge to heart transplantation, as destination therapy, or as a bridge to recovery in selected patients. Major risks include bleeding, infection, device malfunction, and other complications related to both the device and underlying cardiac disease
