Overview

Lens epithelial cell protein LEP503 (LENEP) is a highly conserved, small protein (61 amino acids, ~6.9 kDa) with a leucine-rich domain, localized to the lens epithelial cells on the anterior surface of the vertebrate lens[2][5][4]. Its expression is developmentally regulated, increasing postnatally in rat lens epithelium, and is thought to participate in lens epithelial cell differentiation and possibly lens development, but it does not appear to be a therapeutic target, receptor, or widely studied in disease pathology.
