LETM1 domain-containing protein 1 (LETMD1)

LETM1 domain-containing protein 1 (LETMD1) is a human protein encoded by the LETMD1 gene, sometimes referred to as HCCR-1. It is thought to play a role in maintaining mitochondrial structure and function and is required for thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue[5]. LETMD1 has been implicated in some cancers, where it has been proposed as a potential biomarker and oncogene, but direct evidence of its function, druggability, and detailed molecular roles remains limited[5][6]. It should not be confused with LETM1 (Leucine zipper-EF-hand containing transmembrane protein 1), which is an ion transporter in the mitochondrial inner membrane and more widely studied as a transporter and disease gene[1][2][4].
