Leucine carboxyl methyltransferase 1 pseudogene 1 (LCMT1P1)

Target
LCMT1P1
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene

Overview

Leucine carboxyl methyltransferase 1 pseudogene 1 (LCMT1P1) is a human pseudogene and does not code for a functional enzyme, receptor, or transporter. Pseudogenes such as LCMT1P1 are typically non-functional DNA sequences that resemble known protein-coding genes but have lost their capacity to encode active proteins due to genetic mutations or evolutionary changes. LCMT1P1 is related by sequence to the LCMT1 gene, which encodes a methyltransferase involved in methylating the carboxyl terminus of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a key regulator of many cellular processes. However, LCMT1P1 itself does not encode a methyltransferase or participate in drug targeting or cell signaling.

Mechanism of action

No mechanism of action; not targeted by drugs

03

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes generally do not have biological function unless demonstrated as regulatory non-coding RNAs. There is no evidence LCMT1P1 has a defined biological function)
04

Disease associations

Other (There is no evidence associating LCMT1P1 with disease. The protein-coding LCMT1 gene is implicated in cell cycle control and cancer, but its pseudogene LCMT1P1 does not share these associations)
