Leucine-rich colipase-like protein 1 (LRCOL1)

Target
LRCOL1
Molecular classification
Other (protein coding, not assigned to standard families like receptor/enzyme), Predicted enzyme activator (Gene Ontology), Potentially related to colipase family, given naming and sequence similarity, but specific functional colipase activity is not confirmed
01

Overview

Leucine-rich colipase-like protein 1 (LRCOL1) is a human protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12. It is predicted to act as an enzyme activator involved in digestion and lipid metabolism, and may have functional similarity to colipase, a protein that assists pancreatic lipase in lipid digestion. Despite being annotated as a paralog of colipase (CLPS), LRCOL1 is minimally characterized with no clear evidence of clinical relevance, druggability, or disease implication. No structured protein family like receptor, transporter, or transcription factor is assigned, and experimental functional data is lacking.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable, as there are currently no drugs or known mechanisms of action targeting LRCOL1.

03

Biological functions

Predicted to enable enzyme activator activityPredicted to be involved in digestion and the lipid catabolic process, based on its annotation and paralogy to colipase (CLPS)Mouse ortholog may also be involved in carbohydrate metabolism and cell differentiation
04

Disease associations

No established disease associations, roles in cancer, inflammation, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular, or infectionPredicted associations only, no experimentally validated disease role
05

Safety considerations

None reported, as the gene is not a drug target and there is no known clinical engagement
06

Interacting drugs

No clinically established interacting drugs or drug candidates targeting LRCOL1
07

Biomarkers

None known or described for patient selection or efficacy monitoring
