Leucine-rich repeat, immunoglobulin-like domain and transmembrane domain-containing protein 2 (LRIT2) is a membrane-bound protein characterized by leucine-rich repeats, an immunoglobulin-like domain, and a transmembrane region[7][1]. LRIT2 is encoded by the LRIT2 gene (also known as LRRC22, AC022389.4) located on chromosome 10[3][7]. The protein is primarily implicated in the retina, where it is involved in visual signal transmission between photoreceptors and bipolar cells, crucial for accurate visual processing[1]. LRIT2, as part of the broader LRIT family, also plays roles in cell-cell adhesion, neuronal development, immune system regulation, and cellular communication[1]. Mutations in LRIT2 are associated with retinal diseases such as nanophthalmos and cone-rod dystrophy[7]. There is limited evidence supporting its status as a direct therapeutic target, and no interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or known safety concerns have been documented in the current literature.
