Overview

Leucine-rich repeat and transmembrane domain-containing protein 1 (LRTM1) is a protein enriched in insulin-sensitive tissues and the brain, functioning as a sensor of insulin receptor signaling and postreceptor regulator of metabolic and behavioral activity. Whole-body knockout mice show improved insulin sensitivity, increased lean mass, and hyperactivity due to altered dopamine signaling, indicating a role in both metabolic homeostasis and neuromodulation but not classical receptor-mediated signaling or enzyme/transporter substance transfer[2][5]. LRTM1 is unrelated to the better-characterized LRR/GPCR families, and no direct ligands or drugs are known to interact with it currently.
