It features a leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain and is predominantly located in neuronal tissue, especially the olfactory bulb and dorsal striatum. LRTM2 plays a crucial role in protein sorting within striatal projection neurons, affecting the trafficking and localization of inhibitory synaptic components like GAD67 and GABA_B receptor. Knockout models display altered monoamine metabolism, movement abnormalities, and disrupted axonal protein distribution, underscoring its influence on neural circuit physiology.
