Leucine-rich repeat and transmembrane domain-containing protein 2 (LRTM2) is a 370-amino acid, type I transmembrane protein conserved in vertebrates. It features a leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain and is predominantly located in neuronal tissue, especially the olfactory bulb and dorsal striatum. LRTM2 plays a crucial role in protein sorting within striatal projection neurons, affecting the trafficking and localization of inhibitory synaptic components like GAD67 and GABA_B receptor. Knockout models display altered monoamine metabolism, movement abnormalities, and disrupted axonal protein distribution, underscoring its influence on neural circuit physiology. LRTM2 has molecular interactions with heparin and Roundabout receptors but is not classified as a classic therapeutic target or receptor
