Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 17 (LRRC17) is a human protein encoded by the LRRC17 gene. This protein is part of the leucine-rich repeat (LRR) family, which are typically involved in mediating protein–protein interactions. LRRC17 is mainly implicated in the regulation of bone metabolism, acting as a negative regulator of RANKL-induced osteoclast precursor differentiation from bone marrow cells. Its biological roles are primarily related to bone homeostasis and bone marrow development. The gene has been associated with certain diseases, such as reflex sympathetic dystrophy and neuroblastoma, likely through its influence on bone cell differentiation and the extracellular matrix. To date, LRRC17 is not classified as a canonical therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), and there are no drugs specifically developed to interact with it. Its function may have broader implications in bone-related diseases, but it is not currently established as a biomarker or drug target[1][2][3].
