Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 20 (LRRC20) is a human protein encoded by the LRRC20 gene and is characterized by the presence of multiple leucine-rich repeats, which are common structural motifs involved in protein-protein interactions[6]. While the precise functional role of LRRC20 is not thoroughly characterized, genetic association studies have linked polymorphisms in the LRRC20 gene to altered regulation of immune responses, notably contributing to elevated interferon-alpha levels and heterogeneity in disease severity among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus[3]. LRR-containing proteins as a group have been broadly implicated in diverse cellular processes, including apoptosis, autophagy, and signaling, but the specific molecular pathways for LRRC20 remain unclear[1]. There is some evidence suggesting a putative function as a transcriptional repressor, and by analogy to other LRR family members, LRRC20 may participate in signal transduction or transcriptional regulation[2][3]. At present, LRRC20 is not an established therapeutic target, and no approved drugs or specific inhibitors are known to interact with it. The protein is considered part of the broader leucine-rich repeat protein family, which plays roles in immunity, cell structure, and various signaling pathways[1].
