Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 37A2 (LRRC37A2) is a predicted single-span transmembrane protein located in the membrane, whose gene resides in the complex chromosome 17q21.31 region[1][2]. The protein structure features multiple extracellular leucine-rich repeat (LRR) motifs, believed to be involved in protein–protein interactions or structural scaffolding. While the precise biological function remains unresolved, variation and abnormal expression of LRRC37A2 are associated with susceptibility to Parkinson's disease through effects on transcript levels in various brain tissues. LRRC37A2 is also implicated in gene fusion events in lymphomas, suggesting a broader relevance in neurodegenerative and oncogenic contexts. There are currently no known direct drug interactions, biomarker uses remain investigational, and its role as a classical therapeutic target (receptor, enzyme, transporter) is not established[1][3][5].
