Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 39 (LRRC39) is a muscle-specific protein encoded by the LRRC39 gene, primarily expressed in the heart and skeletal muscle. It is a structural component of the sarcomeric M-band, a region critical for muscle fiber integrity and response to mechanical stress. LRRC39 may regulate the expression of other M-band proteins through a mechanism involving serum response factor (SRF), and is important for normal contractile function of the heart. Clinical literature implicates mutations in LRRC39 in certain muscle disorders, including distal myopathy and congenital myasthenic syndrome. LRRC39 is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter nor currently considered a pharmacological therapeutic target or biomarker[1][2][5][6].
