Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 40 (LRRC40) is a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein encoded by the *LRRC40* gene, highly conserved across eukaryotes and believed to participate in protein-protein interactions due to its leucine-rich repeat domain[3]. Although its function is largely uncharacterized, LRRC40 is predicted to be involved in intracellular signal transduction and has been identified as a component of a protein interaction network that potentially modulates receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and tumor suppressor activity[1][2]. LRRC40 has also been implicated, as a candidate gene, in neurodevelopmental disorders (autism spectrum disorder) and identified as part of a multigene prognostic signature for Wilms tumor, suggesting roles in both neural development and cancer prognosis[1]. It may also participate in innate immune responses and tissue repair, as suggested by studies in Hydra[1]. The protein lacks transmembrane domains, localizes predominantly to the nucleus, and is not recognized as a classical drug target (such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel)[3][2][1]. No drugs or mechanisms of action directly targeting LRRC40 are currently reported.
