Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 58 (LRRC58) is a protein encoded by the LRRC58 gene in humans and is characterized by the presence of leucine-rich repeats, structural motifs known to mediate protein-protein interactions[6][14]. Recent research indicates that LRRC58 functions as a substrate adaptor within an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, facilitating the proteasomal degradation of cysteine dioxygenase type 1 (CDO1)—a key enzyme in cysteine metabolism—thus implicating LRRC58 in the regulation of cysteine catabolism and cellular protein homeostasis[1]. Although LRRC58 is predicted to be involved in intracellular signal transduction and various metabolic regulatory processes, there is currently no evidence designating it as a classic therapeutic target (such as receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel) and no established role in major human disease pathogenesis or clinical therapy[5][13][14].
