Overview

Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 73 (LRRC73) is a human protein encoded by the LRRC73 gene (also known as C6orf154). It contains leucine-rich repeat (LRR) motifs, which are known in other proteins to mediate protein-protein interactions and often play roles in cell signaling or structural scaffolding. However, as of current knowledge, LRRC73 itself is uncharacterized: neither its molecular function, cellular localization, nor roles in physiology or disease are well-established in the literature. Unlike better-studied LRR family members, such as Toll-like receptors or NOD-like receptors, there is no evidence that LRRC73 acts as a classic therapeutic target (e.g., receptor, enzyme, transporter). Leucine-rich repeat-containing proteins as a family are associated with diverse cellular functions including apoptosis, immunity, protein trafficking, and structural scaffolding, but specific functions of LRRC73 have yet to be elucidated in any detail. LRRC73 should not be confused with the closely related LRCH (Leucine-rich repeat and calponin homology domain-containing) protein family, which is known to regulate cytoskeleton and immune cell migration, but LRRC73 is not one of these canonical LRCH proteins. There is currently no published evidence that LRRC73 acts directly as a receptor, enzyme, or drug target, nor are there any known endogenous or exogenous ligands, drug interactions, or biomarker uses for this protein. Other LRR-containing proteins have well-described physiological roles, especially in immunity and cell signaling, but these cannot be directly assigned to LRRC73 without further research. There are no reported safety concerns, therapeutic challenges, or clinical considerations for LRRC73. This summary is based on the lack of functionally relevant experimental literature for LRRC73; this is distinct from better-characterized LRR family members.
