Overview

LETM1P1 is a pseudogene in humans, annotated as "leucine zipper-EF-hand containing transmembrane protein 1 pseudogene 1." Pseudogenes are DNA segments that resemble functional genes but carry disabling mutations preventing expression of functional proteins. The parent gene, LETM1, encodes an inner mitochondrial membrane protein involved in calcium/proton exchange, but LETM1P1 does not produce a functional product and is generally considered an "evolutionary relic". Current evidence does not support LETM1P1 having a therapeutic role or being a direct disease modifier. In some cases, pseudogenes may have regulatory effects (e.g., as microRNA decoys), but such a function is not established for LETM1P1. In summary: LETM1P1 is a non-coding pseudogene and not a therapeutic target, receptor, or functional protein; the entry is incorrect as a druggable target since it does not produce an active molecule.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

No known function; generally considered nonfunctional, but some pseudogenes can act as regulatory elements or "miRNA decoys" in rare cases
04

Disease associations

None (no established or specific disease role for LETM1P1 itself; pseudogenes in other contexts can sometimes act as gene expression regulators, but this is not established for LETM1P1)
