Overview

Leucine zipper protein 2 (LUZP2) is a conserved, predominantly brain-expressed transcription factor featuring a leucine zipper motif that facilitates protein-protein interactions and regulates gene expression. The gene is located on chromosome 11p14.3 and is expressed at higher levels in the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and hypothalamus. LUZP2 is downregulated in higher-grade gliomas and its genetic variants have been implicated in higher risk for Alzheimer’s disease and poorer cognitive function. While not drug-targeted, LUZP2 may have biomarker potential in certain neurological diseases, and its exact biological role appears related to neurodevelopment and disease progression in the central nervous system[1][2][4].
