Overview

Leucine zipper tumor suppressor family member 3 (LZTS3) is a protein believed to play a role in cellular growth modulation and neuronal synapse assembly. It is a member of the LZTS family, which includes other potential tumor suppressors. LZTS3 is encoded on chromosome 20p13 and is highly conserved among vertebrates. The protein contains a leucine zipper motif and is predicted to localize in the nucleus and postsynaptic density of neurons, with highest expression in the brain and kidney. Its precise physiological functions remain under investigation, but predictions and limited experimental evidence suggest roles in dendritic spine maturation and possibly in regulating mitosis, similar to other LZTS proteins. Although LZTS family members have been implicated in cancer biology, specific links between LZTS3 and human disease remain largely predictive or inferred from family association[1][2][3][8].
