Overview

Leucocyte elastase, also known as neutrophil elastase, is a serine protease enzyme primarily found in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils. It plays a key role in immune defense by degrading proteins during inflammation and infection. Excessive activity or dysregulation leads to tissue damage implicated in several diseases, including chronic inflammatory diseases, acute conditions, and cardiovascular disease.
