Overview
Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is a secreted, pleiotropic cytokine belonging to the interleukin-6 (IL-6) superfamily. It is involved in a wide range of biological processes including cell growth regulation, embryonic implantation, stem cell self-renewal, neuronal development, immune modulation, and cancer progression. LIF exerts its effects by binding to a heterodimeric receptor complex composed of LIFRβ and gp130, activating downstream signaling pathways like JAK/STAT3, MAPK/ERK, and PI3K/AKT.
