Leukocidin LukAB (also known as LukGH) is a bicomponent pore-forming toxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus. It targets and lyses human phagocytes, particularly neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells, contributing to immune evasion. It binds to CD11b and forms an octameric beta-barrel pore, leading to cell death. As it is present in almost all S. aureus isolates it is a good target for vaccine development.
Forms a transmembrane pore in host cells, leading to cell lysis.
