Leukocyte Adhesion Molecules on Endothelium (CAMs)

CAMs

01

Overview

Leukocyte adhesion molecules (CAMs) on the endothelium are a family of cell surface proteins that mediate the adhesion of leukocytes to the endothelium, a critical step in the inflammatory response. These molecules, including selectins, immunoglobulin superfamily members (ICAMs, VCAMs), and integrins, orchestrate the sequential steps of leukocyte recruitment, enabling immune cells to migrate from the bloodstream into tissues. Dysregulation of CAM expression contributes to chronic inflammatory disorders and vascular diseases, making them potential therapeutic targets, although challenges remain in developing effective and safe CAM-targeting drugs.
