LFA-3

Overview

Leukocyte function-associated antigen 3 (LFA-3), also known as CD58, is a cell surface adhesion molecule that plays a critical role in immune cell interactions. It serves as a ligand for the T lymphocyte CD2 glycoprotein, facilitating essential contacts between T cells and other cells. This interaction is crucial for thymocyte development, immune synapse formation and effective immune responses. Altered expression of LFA-3 has been implicated in diseases such as Burkitt's lymphoma, where reduced levels may help tumor cells escape immunosurveillance.
