Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor pseudogenes are nonfunctional DNA segments highly homologous to functional LILR genes, which encode immunoregulatory receptor proteins in leukocytes. As a pseudogene (ENSG00000249189), it does not encode a functional protein, does not act as a receptor or other therapeutic target, and is not known to participate in cellular signaling or disease processes. Pseudogenes may occasionally produce noncoding RNAs or be transcribed at low levels, but by definition, they lack protein-coding capacity and established biological function. This target is considered incorrect for therapeutic purposes as it is a pseudogene, not a canonical, functional therapeutic target. No widely used standard alias is consistently found for ENSG00000249189, though names like "LILRP1" or "LILRP2" exist for other pseudogenes in the family. It should not be used as a canonical therapeutic target; functional members of the LILR family (e.g., LILRB1, LILRB2) are valid immune regulatory receptor drug targets.
