Leukotriene receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the biological effects of leukotrienes, which are lipid-derived inflammatory mediators. These receptors play key roles in immune responses, particularly in inflammation and allergic reactions. Subtypes include BLT1, BLT2, CysLT1, CysLT2 and GPR99 (CysLT3). Activation of these receptors leads to a variety of effects, including bronchoconstriction, increased mucus production, vascular leakage, and recruitment of immune cells. They are important drug targets for asthma and allergic diseases.
Leukotriene receptor antagonists block the binding of leukotrienes to their receptors (BLT1, BLT2, CysLT1, CysLT2, GPR99), preventing downstream signaling cascades and subsequent physiological effects such as bronchoconstriction and inflammation. Zileuton inhibits leukotriene synthesis.
