Overview

The Leukotriene E4 receptor is a putative cell-surface receptor hypothesized to specifically bind and mediate the biological effects of leukotriene E4 (LTE4). While classical CysLT1R and CysLT2R receptors bind LTE4 weakly, evidence suggests the existence of additional distinct receptor(s) with high selectivity for LTE4, such as P2Y12 or a functionally observed receptor in mouse skin ("CysLTR_ER"). Activation of this putative receptor leads to bronchoconstriction, airway hyperresponsiveness, and inflammatory cell influx, particularly relevant in asthma and other allergic/inflammatory conditions. Its precise molecular identity remains under investigation.
