Overview

LHFPL tetraspan subfamily member 6 protein (LHFPL6) is a member of the lipoma HMGIC fusion partner gene family and classified within the superfamily of tetraspan transmembrane proteins[1][3][4]. It was first identified in association with benign lipomas as a fusion partner of the HMGA2 gene, implicating it in chromosomal translocation-associated tumorigenesis[1][2][3]. Recent research demonstrates LHFPL6 is upregulated in gastric cancer, correlating with increased pathological stage, poor prognosis, and activation of epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) processes[2]. LHFPL6 is mainly expressed in fibroblasts within the tumor microenvironment and is associated with increased infiltration of immunosuppressive M2 macrophages, contributing to cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastasis[2]. LHFPL6, therefore, functions as a prognostic biomarker and is considered a therapeutic target in gastric cancer and possibly other soft tissue neoplasms[1][2][3].
