Overview

LHX5 antisense RNA 1 (LHX5-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on human chromosome 12, transcribed antisense relative to the LHX5 protein-coding gene[1][2][3][8]. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it does not encode a protein but may regulate the expression of the adjacent LHX5 gene, potentially through transcriptional interference or chromatin modification[4][7]. LHX5-AS1 is classified as an antisense RNA because it is transcribed from the opposite DNA strand relative to its sense (protein-coding) partner gene LHX5[1][3][7]. It is primarily identified by transcriptomic and genomic studies, and there is no direct experimental evidence linking LHX5-AS1 to a disease, validated biological function, or known drug interaction[5][6]. No evidence currently suggests LHX5-AS1 is a therapeutic target, biomarker, or associated with notable safety concerns, and its function remains largely uncharacterized.
