Overview

LIM zinc finger domain containing 4 (LIMS4) is a small protein (117 amino acids, 13.3 kDa) characterized by the presence of a LIM domain, a double zinc finger structural motif that mediates protein-protein interactions. Proteins with LIM domains often function as adaptor or scaffold proteins, localizing to cytoskeletal structures and involved in the organization of the actin cytoskeleton, cell adhesion, and potentially signal transduction. Although the specific molecular function and signaling partners of LIMS4 remain poorly characterized, its family is broadly implicated in the regulation of cytoskeleton dynamics and cell architecture. Pathogenic variants in LIMS4 have been associated with rare inherited diseases such as Joubert syndrome 4 and Armfield syndrome. There are currently no therapeutic drugs, established mechanisms of action, or biomarker applications specifically related to LIMS4.
