Limbic system-associated membrane protein (LSAMP) is a cell adhesion molecule that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, specifically the IgLON family of proteins. It is critical in the central nervous system, especially within the limbic system, for regulating neural development, axon guidance, and synaptic plasticity. LSAMP acts as a homophilic adhesion molecule, supporting the formation and maintenance of neural circuits involved in learning, memory, and emotional behavior. It is also proposed to act as a tumor suppressor, with loss or dysregulation associated with increased cancer risk in several tissues. Dysregulation of LSAMP has been linked to neuropsychiatric conditions, neurodegenerative disease, and a variety of tumor types. No drugs are currently known to directly target LSAMP.
