Overview

LINC00240 antisense RNA regulating promoter methylation (LARRPM) is a 954-nucleotide long, polyadenylated long non-coding RNA transcribed from the locus LOC100270746 on chromosome 6p22.2, oriented antisense to the LINC00240 gene. LARRPM acts as a regulator of local DNA methylation by binding and recruiting the DNA demethylase TET1 to the LINC00240 promoter, resulting in demethylation and increased transcription of LINC00240. Functionally, LARRPM exhibits tumor-suppressive activity in lung adenocarcinoma cells by inhibiting their proliferation, migration, and invasion, while promoting apoptosis. Furthermore, LARRPM reduces the recruitment and polarization of M2-type tumor-associated macrophages in the tumor microenvironment, thereby enforcing an anti-tumor immune milieu. Low LARRPM levels are correlated with advanced tumor stage and worse survival outcomes in lung adenocarcinoma. The gene is classified as an lncRNA and has no protein-coding potential. There are currently no drugs or small molecules directly targeting LARRPM, but it is being studied for its biomarker and therapeutic target potential in cancer biology.
