Lipase family member K (LIPK)

Target
LIPK
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Hydrolase (specifically a lipase)
01

Overview

Lipase family member K (LIPK) is an enzyme belonging to the lipase family, predicted to possess lipoprotein lipase activity, and is primarily expressed in keratinocytes where it plays a highly specific role in the terminal steps of differentiation and cornification[1][3][4][6]. It is believed to be essential for lipid metabolism in the most differentiated layers of the epidermis[4][5]. Currently, there is no evidence that LIPK is a therapeutic target, nor are there drugs known to modulate its activity. No direct role in human diseases or safety concerns related to therapeutic modulation have been reported.
