Lipases from *Yarrowia lipolytica* are extracellular enzymes belonging to the serine hydrolase family (EC 3.1.1.3), primarily responsible for catalyzing the hydrolysis of ester bonds in long-chain triacylglycerols, resulting in fatty acids and glycerol. Under certain conditions, these enzymes can also catalyze synthetic reactions such as esterification and amidation. The most studied isoenzyme is Lip2p, which is the main extracellular isoenzyme synthesized by this yeast. Lipases from *Y. lipolytica* have significant industrial utility and are being explored as alternatives to pancreatic enzymes in digestive therapies due to their high stability and efficacy across various pH levels.
