Lipid raft-mediated cellular uptake refers to the process by which cells internalize substances via specialized membrane microdomains enriched in cholesterol and sphingolipids. It is increasingly recognized for its role in tumor-selective accumulation of therapeutics by exploiting differences in membrane composition and receptor localization between tumor cells and normal tissues. This mechanism involves endocytosis and vesicle formation and can be targeted by drug delivery systems designed to interact with lipid rafts on cancer cell membranes.
