This receptor is essential for internalizing Lipocalin-1-ligand complexes, facilitating detoxification, immunomodulation, antimicrobial defense (binding bacterial/fungal siderophores), and regulating tissue homeostasis[1][2][7]. LIMR is encoded on chromosome 12p11 and is highly conserved across species, highlighting its fundamental biological role[2]. Elevated Lipocalin-1 expression serves as a biomarker for cellular stress, inflammation, and select pathological conditions[1].
