Target intelligence / Profile preview
Lipocalin 8 (LCN8) is an epididymal-specific member of the lipocalin family, characterized by an 8-stranded antiparallel beta-barrel forming a cup-shaped ligand-binding pocket, primarily expressed in the proximal epididymis[1][2]. LCN8 plays a key role in establishing and maintaining the differentiated state of epididymal epithelial cells, supports sperm maturation, and is likely involved in the transport of small hydrophobic metabolites or molecules essential for reproductive biology[1]. Although LCN8 is a useful marker for initial segment-specific expression and fertility research, it does not currently have demonstrated roles in disease or drug interactions and is not an established therapeutic target[3].
