Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a major component of the outer membrane of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other Gram-negative bacteria. It consists of lipid A, a core oligosaccharide, and an O-antigen. LPS acts as a protective barrier and triggers strong innate immune responses via TLR4 signaling. Its structural variability contributes to immune evasion, biofilm formation, and antibiotic resistance, making it a key virulence factor. Therapeutic strategies target LPS biosynthesis, transport, or its interaction with TLR4; however, heterogeneity complicates direct targeting.
