Lipoprotein Lipase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Lipase
01

Overview

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is a water-soluble enzyme that hydrolyzes triglycerides present in circulating chylomicrons and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), releasing free fatty acids and glycerol. It plays a central role in lipid metabolism and is primarily found in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and heart tissue.
