Overview

Little elongation complex subunit 2 (ICE2) is a protein-coding gene encoding a component of the little elongation complex (LEC)[1][3][5]. The LEC is essential for the transcription of small nuclear RNA (snRNA) genes by RNA polymerase II, facilitating both polymerase occupancy at these genes and subsequent transcriptional elongation[1][3][5]. ICE2 and other LEC components localize to nuclear subdomains called Cajal bodies, which are involved in the assembly of ribonucleoprotein complexes[3][5]. There are pseudogenes associated with ICE2 on chromosomes 3 and 4[3]. Human ICE2 is referred to by several aliases, including BRCC1, NARG2, and NMDA receptor-regulated protein 2, though relationships to NMDA receptor signaling are unclear in major human curation resources[3][5]. ICE2 is not typically considered a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel; it is a regulatory protein involved in gene expression.
