Liver meridian

The Liver meridian is a classical concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine representing an energy pathway (meridian) associated with the functional entity called the Liver (gan). It is believed to regulate the smooth flow of Qi and blood, emotional balance, function of the tendons and eyes, and aspects of reproductive and digestive health. The liver meridian is named "Foot Jueyin" because it traverses the body from the big toe along the inner leg to the chest, connecting with various acupoints (e.g., LV-1 to LV-14) and its paired organ, the gallbladder. The concept is not based on anatomical or molecular structures but is central in TCM diagnosis and treatment, particularly for conditions described as "Liver Qi stagnation," menstrual disorders, irritability, and vision problems. It is not recognized as a biological molecule or therapeutic target in modern biomedicine. In summary, the Liver meridian is a non-molecular, conceptual target unique to Traditional Chinese Medicine, not considered a therapeutic target in biomedical terms.
