LLPH pseudogene 3 (LLPHP3)

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Other

Overview

LLPH pseudogene 3 is a nonfunctional DNA sequence resembling the functional LLPH gene, located on human chromosome 12. Pseudogenes like LLPHP3 typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that render them incapable of producing functional proteins. While many pseudogenes do not serve an obvious biological role, some pseudogenes in general can, in specific contexts, function in gene regulation or as sources of non-coding RNAs, but there is no evidence for such roles specifically for LLPHP3. The parent gene, LLPH (LLP Homolog, Long-Term Synaptic Facilitation Factor), is involved in RNA binding and neuronal dendritic development, but LLPHP3 itself has no documented functional impact or relevance as a target.
