Target intelligence / Profile preview
LMCD1 antisense RNA 1 (LMCD1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the LMCD1 gene. It does not code for protein but influences gene expression through multiple mechanisms, including functioning as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to "sponge" microRNAs (notably miR-106b-5p and miR-1287-5p). LMCD1-AS1 is overexpressed in various tumor types, and its silencing leads to reduced cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in osteosarcoma and other cancers. Upstream regulators such as transcription factors SP1, GLI2, and E2F1 bind to the LMCD1-AS1 promoter, enhancing its expression. It may play a role in the recovery from acute kidney injury and has indirect implications in fibrosis and cardiovascular disease. LMCD1-AS1 is a promising biomarker and potential therapeutic target in oncology and other disease contexts, although no drugs currently target this molecule directly.
Not directly targeted by drugs. Proposed mechanisms include: miRNA sponging (especially miR-106b-5p, miR-1287-5p, and possibly let-7g), affecting gene expression that drives cancer progression. Regulation of transcription factors (e.g., SP1, GLI2, E2F1) through promoter binding and transcriptional activation.
